One Hour Compo - Round 500 (OHC500)
Outline
"Polybius is a fictitious arcade game that originated from an urban legend created in 2000. The original game's actual existence has never been authoritatively proven, but it has served as inspiration for several free and commercial games by the same name.
The urban legend is that the game was part of a government-run crowdsourced psychology experiment, with gameplay producing intense psychoactive and addictive effects in the player. These few publicly staged arcade machines were said to have been visited periodically by men in black for the purpose of data-mining the machines and analyzing these effects. Finally, all of these Polybius arcade machines allegedly disappeared from the arcade market."
This theme is not necessarily about creating a song from the soundtrack of Polybius, unless of course that is what you choose what to interpret the theme as. Polybius is a lost game, a masterfully created psychological bomb dangerous enough to have been removed from public consumption and erased from history.

they say they never found the disks. if so, what of my memories?

They had to take it away because of widespread symptoms of addiction and tinnitus caused by the eargasms from the 9-bit OST.

Do you believe in a game called Polybius?
Do you believe it's not a game?

Do you believe it's not a game?
Yet many people try
try to find if it's real
or just a fake
or something else

You are soaring. After all of your years of living, nothing has ever felt quite as good as this. You're not missing any shots. You're not wasting a single move. Every button, every flick, every smash and slam is with meaning, with purpose, with passion. You are aflame. Your every action propels you further and further towards your goal. You realize, for the very first time in your life, that this is who you were meant to be---this is what you were meant to be. A winner. You are on top of the world.

I haven't done one of these in a while, but I had to do one for this milestone. Congrats OHC for 500 OHCs!
Here's a multitrack improv thing with a Yamaha PSR-270 and my voice and some light effects and such.

I tried to do something entirely acoustic non electronic. I even recorded all of the percussion. Idk, it kind of sucks a bit... Also, I just sort of covered over the polybius soundtrack so....

took a very, very old original of mine that was barely developed and turned it into this beast. Retro 80's time.

Was really hard to do much with only an hour but it was fun to force some decisions. tried to go for a threatening vibe.

A shame that something like this had to be relegated to the dreaded Untitled series, but I work until 5:30, it takes me 30 minutes to pick up my mom, and I've...gotten rusty :c
But hey, I'm back somewhat D:

This is a hard trance song about the destruction of polybius. The ending contains sounds that would have played from the arcade machine, but someone decided to boot it up and somehow make it play as it fell from the deep void.

A masterfully clipped audial bomb dangerous enough to be removed from public consumption.
jk this is trash lmao

300 one hour compos later..............
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand One Hour Compo. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Starla's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into her characterisation - her personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike One Hour Compo truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick's existencial catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon's genius unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools... how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have a One Hour Compo tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.
