Hey guys unfortunately at the time of this compo being announced, i was away for a week, so sadly i couldn't get to partake in this round. I did eventually submit something, which i think it's my magnum opus, even when i didn't need to, but i chose to just to say hi. As a result of me not making the party, i have decided to share my thoughts and vote instead. I have been meaning to do this much earlier, but i'm currently under the weather, and so i needed all the energy i got just to finally write stuff down. Either way, i hope you guys are doing well, and i will possibly see you tomorrow/sunday. Anyways onto the entries!
RubapTheRambunctious - Interesting modular drums, kind of electro inspired. Sick vocal work, i like the rapping, it's pretty great bars. The bassline is quite more intense than the drums, but i don't know if it's intentional. Either way it's very cool, great submission, you rap much better than me. Well done!
Vaiaphraim - Ooh reverb on the Yamaha drums, not common from you. I love the synths here, it's extemely 80's sounding, like were in a futuristic Synthwave game, strangely i feel like were in a Tetris inspired game who knows. This one is all about the atmosphere, especially for a Vaia piece, usually you go crazy with the melodies, but this isn't the case. Killer changes though, it's still melodic to a degree, it's wonderful. Loving the fast arp, it feels extremely NES inspired. Whole thing was just killer mate, well done!
Antik - Very early Antik submission, and holy fuck, this is not what i was expecting. This sounds pretty much like an Etrove type beat wow. I know you've made DnB before, but this is some serious wubs and growls, and that beat is killer, it hits super hard. Of course you gotta live up to the Antik level short, but man this surprised me, and was just an absolute banger, killer production, well done!
Krirbs - Lol loving that quote on the toms. This is some serious percussion, i need to sample this and make a beat out it! From a guy who is mostly known for orchestration, this is the most 180 from you, it sounds like it belongs to a different artist. It's fascinating, it's ethnic music, but distorted to high heaven, it sounds industrial. I don't know how to even process the melodies, i cannot stop headbanging the grooves are just excellent. So wacky, so weird, so unique, but extremely fun and catchy. Well done!
NelsNose - Starting straight into the reggae vibe, with such a UK inspired Saxophone solo, it feels like i'm listening to The Specials. The vocals are very quiet in contrast to the mix, i really would love to hear stronger vocals, there way too quiet. It's not often i hear a 707 for a reggae styled piece, but i can work with it. The real star is the saxophone, your playing is wonderful. This is great either way! Well done!
UrinalPooper - Feedback galore! UrinalPooper is so psychedelic, he sees nothing but dots and shapes in his eyes lol. This is quite the quiet mix, or maybe my ears are shot from the damn flu that's infected my body for the past 3 days, but either way, the track is killer. Even if the mix might not be legendary, i have been won over with killer melodies and lyric writing, and this is it. Your lyrics never fail to not make me laugh. Combine that with the sick guitar solo, this is one hell of a piece. Well done!
Wonk - It's been ages! And now you come baring vocals! This is some thick blues shit, it feels kind of like if Elvis was too tired to come to the studio lol. It's so laid back and swung, it feels extremely psychedlic. That solo is wonderful, it's so slow yet so vibey, i just feel like sleeping. I don't know how it all works, it's very distorted and lo-fi sounding, yet it works exceptionally well. I missed your entries, this was lovely, well done!
Eidolon Ethos - Ooh textural pads, so much phasing i feel like i'm in a hydraulic chamber. I love interesting sounds like this. That F stab note is kind of like a mix between a vocal and a synth, i love these combinations. I love how the more you listen, it just gets more progressively 80's sounding, to where it basically sounds like were back in time. The changes in this one are awesome too, it just keeps on giving. You really know the art of 80's sounding beats, this was killer, well done!
Gercr - Of course we have to have the Gercr classic jam, that strangely gives off the Eagles vibes. Sick tone, so raw, so lifelike, it really feels like i'm watching you play, yet it's all on headphones. You love the crash cymbals in this one, but i'm not complaining, it works pretty well. Yeah this is a killer jam, nothing else to say. Well done!
bo0m3r31337 - Wow these are some insane metal guitars! Woah dude this is a glow up and a half, fuck me these are some insane guitars, and that drum work is intense. Excellent vocal work as well, you are totally giving off Nuke's work here, as he would combine emotive singing with screaming. The only thing i will say, it sounds a bit too compressed and bass heavy, but that's just me. Of course this is metal, so i get it, but when the gabber kick comes in, i don't seem to have an issue there, it's more the overal mix. Still though, everything else was awesome. It's so much fun, well done!
Nukage - Calm intro for a Nukage entry, usually we start off pretty thick. At first i thought the overall waveform was too quiet, but then i took a look at it, and no it seems to be very dynamic. The first part, the beat is super quiet and unnoticable, but the vocals are in the spotlight, i feel like i need bigger drums here, but the ending was crazy unexpected. The mix is suddenly beefier, the vocals are much more aggressive, and the drums are really tight and snappy. Lot of work to get to the end, but it pays off. Either way it's still a killer track with sick elements, well done!
TomTr9 - Nice deep bass, kind of going all out in the Kraftwerk future vibes. Sort of technological as well, i feel like i'm just chilling. The filtered synth and drums that come in, really make it dynamic, almost like i'm watching a movie trailer or video game trailer, it's just such a dynamic piece. Shame it's so short, because i really felt the ideas here. It was great stuff, well done!
AthanThatGuy - Even though that is one thick waveform, i don't really feel the subs in the ears. However i was the idiot to choose to review this when my ears are not performing 100 percent lol. Or maybe it is compressed, because i notice when the sub stops, the volume slides up. It definately sounds like the 808 is compressed to hell. The rap part is excellent, it fits the vibe so well, i totally feel like i want to headbang right now. Even with what i've said, the vibe is just killer. Well done!
Meistr - Nice beat, got that stadium feel, i wasn't expecting a violin for this, but man it's extremely nice sounding. The vocals are really lovely (Which i'm not suprised, you know how to source killer vocalists), and the track itself is really nicely arranged. Some parts are a bit louder than others, i noticed the intro was drastically different in volume than the drop, however the idea is really cool, i totally felt the vibe. It was just great, well done!
LukeLoww - Ayy loving the return to oldschool! Lots of 90's influence but in this modern house/techno number. The kick is quite deep, but weirdly not punchy, or at least the emphasis is on the tail more than the attack. That is one killer hi-hat pattern though, and i am addicted to these kinds of oldschool melody ideas like that. Arrangement is excellent, but then again, you know how to make killer techno arrangement. Not much needs doing really, if anything at all. Excellent headbanger mate, well done!
Taiine - Immediately jumping in with the fast arps, and thick subs, i sense a DnB number incoming. It's a very unexpected drop, the arp teases a lot of interesting directions, but when the drop hits, it's some extremely hard hitting DnB. That is one insanely compressed kickdrum, but in a wonderful way. That kick is mixed wonderfully, and the vocal stutters just make it. Exceptional vibe, killer mix, lovely stuff, well done!
Relax.D - I include late entries, because i'm nice like that. That is a fast kickdrum, not something i would expect, but i'm all for it. I think the whole track is fed through a delay, because there is so many echo feedback it's kind of weird but so cool. Vocals are very quiet, could come up in my opinion, but the rest is really nice. It's kind of psychedlic, and weird, but i love it. Has potential for smoothing, but other than that, it's pretty killer stuff. Well done!
